Samer Totah
Born in
Ramallah in 1972, Samer discovered the oud
at an early age. When circumstances allowed, Samer began to study the
oud professionally, under Issa Boulos, a Palestinian musician.
In 1993, Samer joined the National Conservatory of Music at Birzeit
University where he studied the theory and practice of the oud under the
supervision of Khalid Jubran until the end of the year 2000.
Samer’s participation in many workshops and training programs enabled
him to work with leading oud masters around the world. He performed in
live concerts with several leading Palestinian arts groups, including
the Oriental Music Ensemble, El-Funoun, and the First Ramallah Group in
Western and Arab countries.
The fine sound of the oud inspired Samer to begin creating his own
instrument. He traveled to Turkey, the leading country of oud makers, to
sharpen his craftsmanship.
Samer currently teaches the oud at the National Conservatory of Music as
well as other academic institutions in Palestine.
